  1. Bowls is an outdoor and indoor game popular
  2. in Commonwealth countries. It has been played
  3. in Britain since the 13th century. 
  4. The outdoor game is played on a finely cut 
  5. grassed area called a rink, with biased bowls
  6. 13cm (5in) in diameter. It is played as 
  7. either singles, pairs, triples, or fours. 
  8. The object is to get the bowl (or bowls) as
  9. near as possible to the jack (target). 
  10. There are two popular forms: lawn bowls, 
  11. played on a flat surface, and crown green 
  12. bowls, played on a rink with undulations and
  13. a crown at the centre of the green. This 
  14. latter version is more popular in the 
  15. Midlands and North England.
